Investigation of fire in a heavy goods vehicle in the Oslofjord tunnel, Viken
On Monday 2 August 2021, a heavy goods vehicle (HGV) caught fire before exiting the Oslofjord tunnel in an easterly direction on the Drøbak side. No people were physically injured, but the Oslofjord tunnel was closed for 10 days as a result.
The HGV had about 9.5 tonnes of cargo, and preliminary investigations show that the tractor's intermediate axle broke, causing the tractor to lose momentum just before it stopped.
The investigation will focus on mapping the course of events and what caused the fire in the vehicle to occur and develop.
