Thematic investigation of serious accidents with heavy goods vehicles

Description

Accidents where heavy gods vehicles lose control occur with both Norwegian and foreign carriers. The damage and the injuries are severe because of high energy in these accidents. AIBN intend to investigate how traffic safety is taken care of by the carriers and the carrying agent.

The AIBN has been notified of several road traffic accidents in winter 2018/2019, where truck drivers have lost control in demanding driving conditions. Foreign road vehicles have been involved in several of the accidents.

The AIBN has previously conducted investigations of road traffic accidents where road conditions have been demanding and where the focus of the investigations has been on winter operation. This thematic investigation will seek to identify which framework conditions are leading for the relevant transport assignments, and how traffic safety is safeguarded through these terms.

The aim of this investigation is to uncover learning- and improvements aspects for those who orders transport on road, and the authorities, in order to reduce or prevent such road traffic accidents.

Several road traffic accidents will be included in this thematic investigation, and information about each individual accident will be published on the AIBN's website as these are phased into the survey.
