Investigation of runaway train at Grovane station, Setesdalsbanen heritage railway

Description

On Monday, 26 August 2019, a work train rolled uncontrollably for about 3.5 kilometers on the Setesdalsbanen before it derailed at Grovane endstation.

During a mission in which herbicide was applied to the track, the driver lost control of the machine. The driver tried to regain control, but jumped off when the speed got too high. The work machine continued to the end station Grovane, where it derailed and stopped in the gravel after the track ended. The driver was slightly injured, and there was some material damage to the work train.

The investigation will clarify the sequence of events and identify possible causal factors. Any underlying conditions that may have contributed to the accident will be mapped and analysed.
