Investigation of railway accident on the Bratsbergbanen line
Wednesday 29 April 2020 train 811 collided with a heavy goods vehicle carrying a leisure boat. The accident happened at Borgestad factories level crossing, between Porsgrunn and Skien on the Bratsberg line.
The heavy goods vehicle consisted of a tractor with a low-construction well trailer. It was driving down Borgestadbakken, from Gunnar Knudsens veg (fv. 32), in the direction of the Skien river. The tractor passed the level crossing, but the low trailer got stuck. Only a few minutes later, train 811 came and crashed into the trailer that was standing on the level crossing. The collision caused the train to derail. No people were seriously injured, but both the heavy goods vehicle, the train and the infrastructure were badly damaged.
The investigation will clarify the course of events and point out possible causal factors. Any underlying conditions that may have contributed to the incident will be mapped and analysed.
