Investigation of locomotive (light locomotive) break failure at Roa on the Roa–Hønefoss line
Description
At 11:57 on 16 January 2019, the driver of light engine 21318 from CargoNet AS experienced brake force failure as the light locomotive was approaching Roa station.
The light locomotive was travelling from Hønefoss bound for Oslo. The driver noticed the brake force failure between Grindvoll and Roa. At the location in question, there is a downhill slope with a gradient of 20 ‰ towards Roa station. The locomotive passed a stop signal at the main approach signal for Roa and continued for about one kilometre before stopping by the points at the other end of the station.
A northbound passenger train entered Roa station just before the incident took place.
No one was injured in this incident.
The investigation will clarify the sequence of events and identify possible causal factors. Any underlying conditions that may have contributed to the accident will be mapped and analysed.
