Investigation of railway accident at the Metro in Oslo

On Monday 17 December 2018, a fire with subsequent explosion occurred in a welding car in the tunnel between Ensjø and Helsfyr Metro stations.

The welding car was connected to a work machine and transported necessary equipment for repair and maintenance of the rails. This type of work is usually done during night hours when there is no ordinary traffic and the stations are closed.

No one was injured in the accident, but there was considerable damage to the welding car and several windows at Helsfyr Metro Station were damaged. The Metro line was closed for several hours.

The investigation will clarify the sequence of events and identify possible causal factors. Any underlying factors that may have contributed to the incident will be mapped and analysed.
