Investigation of a marine casualty in the Port of Rotterdam in cooperation with the Dutch Safety Board (DSB)

Description

Saturday 23 June 2018 the chemical tanker Bow Jubail made contact with the jetty at the Botlek terminal in the Port of Rotterdam. This caused the spill of about 217 tons of heavy fuel oil.

The Accident Investigation Board Norway (AIBN) and the Dutch Safety Board (DSB) have initiated a joint safety investigation of the marine casualty with the chemical tanker Bow Jubail in the Port of Rotterdam.

Wednesday 27 June 2018 two marine accident investigators from the AIBN travelled to the Netherlands to participate in the investigation which is led by the DSB.

Status of the investigation

The Dutch safetyboard as lead investigator has chosen to split the investigation in two parts. The nautical part is soon ready. For the other part concerning the oilspill, the investigation is still ongoing.
