The Norwegian Safety Investigation Authority is launching an investigation into an accident in which two soldiers from the Norwegian Air Force were lightly injured when a jeep type vehicle from the Norwegian Air Force drove off the road and hit a rock outcrop. The accident happened at Drivenesvannet in Vennesla municipality on 9 August 2021.
A jeep type vehicle belonging to the Royal Norwegian Air Force's school center (LSS) was on a transport assignment between Kjevik and Evje, when it drove off the road and hit a rock outcrop.
The jeep had been driving on Drivenesvegen, fv. 454, westbound towards Skarpengland in Vennesla municipality. After a left curve, the jeep skidded and drove off the road on the right side, looked in the direction of travel, and hit a rock outcrop.
The two soldiers who were in the vehicle were taken to hospital by ambulance. They were later the same day discharged with what is described as minor injuries.
The investigation will clarify the course of events and seek to uncover what led to the accident. The investigation will look at the Armed Forces' training of drivers, to look at the drivers' prerequisites for driving such vehicles. The investigation will also look at the daily follow-up and routines that apply to drivers at the Air Force's school center.
