Report on air accident at Hokksund airport, Norway, 23 September 2018, to Rolladen-Schneider LS4-B, LN-GCM

This report replaces and cancels NSIA Report SL 2019/06. In connection with basic flight training on Sunday 23. September 2018, the student pilot landed short of the runway at Hokksund Airport. The glider landed on a field adjacent to the airport. During landing roll and braking, the glider hit bushes at the end of the field and was substantially damaged. The student pilot, who was the sole occupant, did not receive any injuries. Witness observations indicates that the airbrakes was extended during the entire final approach, thus influencing negatively on the glide angle.

In accordance with an agreement, investigation of this accident was delegated to the Sailplane Section of the Norwegian Air Sports Federation (S/NLF). In May 2019 the Norwegian Safety Investigation Authority (NSIA) published Report SL 2019/06 with reference to S/NLF Report 19/2018R1.

After the publication of Report SL 2019/06, the NSIA received new significant information about the accident, necessitating reopening the case and altering the investigation report. S/NLF has consequently issued Report 19/2018-REV-2020, which this report from the NSIA is based on.

This report is in Norwegian only.

No safety recommendation is issued in connection with this investigation.
