Investigation of serious aviation incident near Råde Church, Råde municipality in Østfold county, Norway
The aeroplane departed on 21 June 2017 from Torp Airport Sandefjord (ENTO) on an IFR-flight towards Karlstad, Sweden. It was established at a cruise at 6000 ft over Fredrikstad when the crew heard a bang from the engine. The RPM started to fluctuate. Eventually, the crew was unable to maintain altitude. A distress call was transmitted and the course was set towards the nearest airport, Moss Airport Rygge (ENRY). When it became evident that the aeroplane could not reach Rygge, the instructor perfomed an emergency landing on a field near Råde Church. There was no injuries to the crew nor damage to the aeroplane.
Preliminary examination of the aeroplane indicates mechanical engine failure. One of the pistons was disintegrated.
